FORT MYERS, Florida — It’s been nearly three months since Hurricane Ian slammed into the Southwest Florida coast, devastating the popular beach towns of Fort Myers Beach and Sanibel.
But not all areas of Lee County and the Fort Myers region were impacted equally.
We recently reported on the ongoing recovery efforts on Sanibel and Fort Myers Beach, and how long it might take until the island communities are ready to welcome back visitors.
Now, we are exploring several new (to us) areas in the region – Gasparilla Island, Tarpon Lodge and downtown Fort Myers, which were not nearly as damaged by the storm and are already prepared for a full winter of Northern nomads.
Southwest Florida has always been an extremely popular destination for Northeast Ohioans. Yes, Hurricane Ian has eliminated several travel options this winter. So why not consider some new ones?
